This project for an Italian zoo, Le Cornelle, was a delightful experience. The client sought a concept design for a bachelor habitat.

To optimize costs, the new gorilla holding house was designed using the existing giraffe house. The height and area were well-suited and flexible for redesigning.

The building consisted of two areas that could be easily closed and separated, offering the ability to quarantine or remove an animal from the group. It was equipped with several dens and an outdoor area connected to an additional outdoor habitat, which could also be easily closed off from the main area.

Visitors were given access to the indoor area, providing a splendid view of the so-called gorilla gymnasium.

The project was carried out in cooperation with consultants from "Zoological Adviser"

The project received approval from EAZA's EEP housing group and is now set for the next stage.

  • Optimal flexibility in managing the animals.
  • Numerous opportunities for animals to make choices, enhancing their mental and behavioral well-being.
  • Water feature providing excellent viewing opportunities for guests while enriching the animals' habitat.
  • Several platforms and wooden formations to stimulate physical activity.
  • Varied landscape to offer privacy and escape from visitors when needed.
  • Herbal garden, a component of zoopharmacognosy science, stimulating their sole.
